Freya Arde is a German film composer, guitarist and music producer known for her original scores for more than thirty film and television productions across genres including family features, documentaries, and dramas. Her music often blends classical composition with experimental guitar textures and electronic processing to create immersive soundscapes, earning her recognition as an award-winning artist in both film scoring and solo recording.
Arde trained in classical composition and acoustic guitar in Dresden before completing a master's degree in film scoring at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in 2016, following studies in Paris through the Erasmus programme. She has composed for high-profile projects such as the family film The Flying Classroom (2023), the documentary The Hidden Life of Trees (2022) and the Dutch-German youth feature My Extraordinary Summer with Tess (2019). More recently, her work has included the documentary Riefenstahl (2024) by Andres Veiel and Spanish language drama Calle Málaga (2025) by Maryam Touzani which both premiered at the Venice Biennale.
In 2012 Arde won the European Guitar Award as the first female guitarist. She has also been awarded with the German Filmscore Award twice.
In 2020 Freya Arde released her first solo EP Spirit Awake, followed by her single Moon Window which was part of the Project XII compilation by Deutsche Grammophon.
She played as an opening act for James Heather’s Germany tour in 2023 and released a joint track Immortal Beloved Rework the same year.
Her debut album E C H O released in 2025 is a collection of nine pieces for string trio, electric guitar, piano and voice.
Arde lives and works between Dresden and Berlin.
